Dr. Savino BIRYOMUMAISHO is an Associate Professor of Veterinary Medicine and currently the Head, Department of Veterinary Pharmacy and Clinical Studies (PCS), School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Resources (SVAR) at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (CoVAB), Makerere University. Dr. Biryomumaisho is a PhD holder in Veterinary Medicine, Master of Science in Veterinary Clinical Pathology, Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (Makerere University), Diploma in Education and several certificates in animal health and production from several countries that include Israel, China, Belgium, Kenya and United Kingdom. He was a 2019 Faculty Exchange Program awardee to School of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University, during which time he understudied veterinary medicine training in the United States.
Since 2019, he has been representing the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Resources in Senate, the highest academic policy-making body at Makerere University. Since 2017, he serves as a member of the SVAR Institutional Animal Care and Use in Research Committee/Institutional Review Board (SVAR-IACUC/IRB). He is a member of the Governing Council of the University of St. Joseph Mbarara since September 2024. He is also a member of several working committees in SVAR and CoVAB. Earlier, he served as consultant Senior Scientist for Animal Health in the Directorate of Veterinary Services at Rwanda Agriculture Board where he provided expertise in capacity building in animal health systems.
He has a wide experience as a clinician, researcher and university lecturer spanning over 30 years at Makerere University. He has contributed to science by being a lead researcher or team member on several research projects and published a number of articles in the animal health domain in peer reviewed journals.
