A strong and competent veterinary profession is built on a rigorous, well-regulated education and training system. The UVC plays a central role in recognising, and monitoring veterinary training institutions to ensure that graduates possess the knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding required for safe and effective professional practice in Uganda.

Recognised Training Institutions

The UVC formally recognises veterinary degree, diploma & certificate programmes that meet the national standards prescribed for registration and licensing. Currently recognised institutions include:

Graduates from recognised institutions are eligible for registration with the Council, subject to fulfilment of statutory requirements under the Veterinary Practitioners Act, 2024.

 

 

Specialised Training Opportunities

The UVC encourages continuous skills development and specialisation in priority and emerging areas of veterinary practice. In collaboration with national institutions, the Council highlights opportunities for advanced training and professional exposure, including:

  • Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Training and experiential learning opportunities in wildlife health, conservation medicine, and ecosystem health.
  • National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO): Advanced training, research collaboration, and capacity building in livestock health, disease control, diagnostics, and veterinary public health.
  • Makerere University (Mak) - CoVAB : Advance veterinary training at Masters and PhD levels

These education and training standards ensure that veterinary professionals entering and advancing within the profession are competent, ethical, and responsive to national and global veterinary service expectations.
